NZ Open at The Hills'

Room 20 had a fantastic couple of hours of Tee and Snag golf. We had about an hour hitting targets and an hour of playing a round of mini-golf. Our coach Mitch spoke a lot about showing courtesy and responsibility on the golf course which was very helpful for the teacher! We did very well to avoid the rain although we did get rather wet trying to catch our bus, Mr Bailey spotted a small but empty Marquee which saved us.

A huge thank you to Mr Winders for organizing such an awesome day.

Dojo Points

The children are rewarded with Dojo points for a variety of behaviours and subjects such as teamwork, numeracy, writing and even thinking!

Let Mr Bailey know via email or through the diary if your child shows  great examples of any of the behaviours shown in the picture.

Independence and self-management at home should be happening and Mr Bailey is more than happy to reward children if they are showing it - just let him know.

Google Docs

Mr Bailey's Google Drive is jammed packed full of documents! Well done to Room 20 for embracing a new way of working as nearly the entire class have sent at least three or four documents so far on writing, thinking and Inquiry. The effort the children have put in has been incredible, keep it up!

Mr Bailey now needs some Professional Development on how to handle all these documents! The children will find comments on their work which will provide feedback on how they can improve it or an acknowledgement of their great work.

Unicycling Groups and Times

Thank you to all the children and parents who are giving feedback on how we can use the blog.

We have unicycling next week but we have no parental support at the moment for Room 20, if you can help on one of the days please let us know.

I have added the actual groups to ensure you get to see your child enjoy the challenge!

Inquiry Learning

We are currently inquiring into possible themes for our A3 poster based around World War One. There is a fantastic opportunity for the children to have their work exhibited in the Arrowtown museum , if it meets their criteria and expectations.

L & P community stamp

The children are trying to earn stamps for their L & P passport. There are many ways to earn a stamp including sporting, academic and cultural achievements. This group of boys are trying to achieve a stamp based around helping the community by running a rippa rush game with younger children. They were fantastic at organising and showing enthusiasm. Well done boys!

Great response from the children who enjoyed their first lessons of Tech and Science. Sounds like some exciting hands on experiments and projects coming up, should be fun!

Meeting our buddies

We were paired up with our new buddies for 2014 today and they are in Mrs Brentwoods class. We introduced ourselves and gave them a tour of the senior area.

The Importance of Reading Regularly

Room 20 have decided that we should be reading at least 20 mins a night and this poster perfectly displays the importance of it.  The questions below highlight how reading can support other areas of their learning and I would add spelling to that list too.

Mind Mapping

We are fortunate enough to have many devices in year 7. The children were able to find mind mapping tools on the iPads and on the Google Apps too. We are all looking forward to BOYD too, very exciting times.
