Heroes of Tek Rush!

We were very fortunate to be invited to Tek Rush in Cromwell. This is an event where children run workshops about various 'Tek' things like apps on iPads and Google.  Sam and Keanu ran a workshop about Mural.ly which was a serious technical challenge as it is web based and we had issues with laptops and a broken network! In fact, the network only worked during their third workshop so they had to improvise and keep their students engaged in a variety of creative ways. They were both fantastic and a real credit to Arrowtown school in the way they coped under pressure and kept smiling during all the issues. We wish we could say the same about Mr Bailey who panicked and buckled under the pressure!

Mega Brain!

Mrs Luus kindly organised a trip to Wakatipu High School to a science workshop about the brain.  Gaea, Mucha, Brayden and Annabelle were selected as our scientists to investigate. We look forward to your feedback, comments please! Love the photograph team, nicely put together.

Personalised Learning Programme

The 'Personalized Programme' is working really well.  Mr Bailey and Miss Denley are running workshops, Mr B ran one about angle properties and working out missing angles using this knowledge. Lucas and Robert were very pleased with themselves as they do not know what to do at the start of the session and completed all the follow-up work with ease. Indi wanted to focus on dividing with decimals and watched a video online and even found some follow-up work for herself! Now that is personalized!

Rock Concert/Disco

Arrowtown had an amazing night of rock music, last night. There were many band members from various year groups and Oliver from Room 20.  The quality of instrument playing and singing was amazing! Well done to everybody involved for an awesome night!

Awesome Ski Day

Wow! The two days we have had on the mountain were amazing. We had fantastic snow and clear blue skies.  The lessons are going really well with many children now enjoying 'freestyle' sessions doing jumps and boxes.

Google Classroom

We are creating so much work on Google Docs that even with Google Dashboard Mr Bailey is struggling to keep up. He was ecstatic to find Google Classroom which keeps a record of who has completed the task and there are deadlines! Mr Bailey has to give our work grades when they are returned so we will look forward to that! We are currently learning how to write reviews and watched a children's tv programme called Hong Kong Phooey. Mr Bailey thought it was cool, times have changed.

Novel Study

Miss B has given us some great novels to study.  During our reading lessons we read a chapter and then have to complete a task around either comprehension, reflection, language or visualization.  Today we completed activity called Reaction Replay where we created a role-play around an exciting part in the story. We had a chat about what make an effective actor/actress and making it real/believable was the challenge. There were many Oscar-winning performances but our sets need work!

Week 4 Term 3 Class Dojo Winner!

Congratulations to Evie and Indigo, amazing scores for one week!  Please note the new category of cultural awareness, whenever children demonstrate particular cultural knowledge and put it into practice they are gaining points for it. The amazing race has really captured the imagination and all of room 20 are putting a lot of effort into each week. More examples to follow, some of the work is incredible!

Geometry turned into Numeracy!

During our workshop on calculating missing angles it turned into a Numeracy lesson as many of the children were using written algorithms, which is not an efficient way to calculate the answers. We had a long discussion about choosing the most efficient strategy without using written algorithms. It was a great workshop!

Class Website Up and Running!

You will now find an image of our website on the blog. If you click on that it will take you to our website where we share our favourite pieces of work.  After our survey in Room 20 we expressed that we would like to publish/share more of our work and this was the product of that survey! Not everyone has shared work yet but some children have shared lots! We are all so excited to be running our own website, please give us lots of feedback of what you would like to see on it!

Personalised Maths Programme

The personalised programme has got off to a flyer! We are loving the fact that we can choose the learning intention to cover depending on what we got right or wrong on a test.  We have a choice of resources to use to help understand the learning intention and we can join workshops if we think it will help us too. However, Miss D or Mr B insist we join some workshops as we need the extra help in particular areas. We are learning to manage our time as some of us are spending too much time on our daily maintenance but we are improving!

Week 2 Term 3 Class Dojo Winner - Annabelle Jones

A huge congratulations to Annabelle for an amazing score this week. Well done to Room 20 who are stepping up and have really increased their scores as a whole. As you can see, lots of points were given out for creativity during our art lesson and with the focus on the Amazing Race, which is Taiwan this week, we have had a lot of Home Learning points too.
